World no.1 Novak Djokovic will start his US Open Series campaign at the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto, Canada (July 25-31). The official draw will take place on Friday, July 22.
The 2007, 2011 and 2012 champion won 600 points last year. He lost to Andy Murray in the final (4-6, 6-4, 3-6).
The 2016 Summer Olympic Games tennis event will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 06-14. Novak won the Olympic bronze medal in Beijing 2008. In London 2012, he fell in the bronze medal match to Juan Martin del Potro.
A week later, another ATP Masters 1000 event, the Western & Southern Open, begins in Cincinnati (August 15-22).
Novak won 600 ATP points in 2015. He finished runner-up for the fifth time, falling to Roger Federer in the final 6-7 (1), 3-6. It is the only Masters 1000 tournament Nole still hasn’t won.
The 29-year-old Belgrade native will have a week off before the last Grand Slam in 2016 – the US Open (August 29-September 11).
It will be Novak’s 12th appearance in New York, where he lifted the trophy in 2011 and 2015. Last year he beat Roger Federer in the final (6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4).
