Top seed Novak Djokovic moved one step closer to a medal at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, when he earned a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 (3) win against no.8 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Novak broke in the fourth game of the opening set to take it 6-3. He trailed 2-5 in a dramatic second set, in which he saved three set points and twice called the physio for his right knee. The Serbian star appeared to regain confidence in his movement towards the end. He broke the Greek twice to force a tiebreak, which he eventually won 7-3.

Match statistics: aces (6-3), double faults (1-3), winners (28-24), unforced errors (25-26), total points won (82-69).

Up next for the 24-time Grand Slam champion is 11th seed Lorenzo Musetti, who upset defending Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev 7-5, 7-5.

Djokovic has won six of his seven meetings against the Italian.
