Novak was dominant on Monday evening against Gael Monfils ( 6-3, 6-2 ) and then recorded a win in the deciding doubles match with Troicki against Mahut/Roger-Vasselin (6-3, 6-7, 10-3).
Novak beat Benoit Paire 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the win after Filip Krajinovic beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-5, 7-6. Viktor Troicki/Janko Tipsarevic face Pierre-Hugues Herbert/Nicolas Mahut in the remaining doubles dead rubber.
World no.1 defeated reigning Nitto ATP Finals champion Alexander Zverev 7-5, 6-2, 6-2, advancing to the last four on the Parisian terre battue for the ninth time. For a place in the French Open final, Novak will meet fourth seed Dominic Thiem (Friday about 15:30 CET)
The Serbian star dismissed Hubert Hurkacz of Poland 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and 36 minutes to reach the second round in Paris. Novak will next face Swiss lucky loser Henri Laaksonen (ATP #104)
Novak won his first French Open title in 2016 and completed career Grand Slam beating Andy Murray in the final (3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4).
