Brilliant Novak is through to his 47th Grand Slam singles semi-final, that is more GS semi-final appearances than any man has had in history!

Second seed Novak Djokovic advanced to the US Open last four after dispatching Taylor Fritz in straight sets – 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.

The Serbian ace continued his flawless record against the American, and is now 8-0 in their head-to-head series.

Djokovic was in control of all three sets. He powered to the triumph on Arthur Ashe Stadium in two hours and 35 minutes.

The ninth seed was broken six times by the 23-time major titlist, who found a high level and his best game despite playing in brutally humid conditions. Novak got broken twice during the quarter-final meeting but that did not affect his determined performance and final outcome.

“I am drenched in sweat and I saw Taylor changed shirt a couple of times. It was very humid conditions,” Djokovic said. “Difficult to play for both players. But it is the same for both players and that is why we train, to try and get ourselves in the best possible condition to deliver. It is not easy, but you have to fight. I like the energy and the atmosphere on the court here. I thrive on that energy, use it as a fuel to try and play my best tennis. I have been playing on this court for so many years, so many epic matches. I can’t wait for another one in a few days time.”

Match statistics: aces (7-8), double faults (5-2), winners (25-33), unforced errors (26-51), total points won (102-81).

For a spot in the championship match, Novak will play against 20-year-old Ben Shelton (USA, ATP no. 47, H2H 0-0) who beat no.10 seed Frances Tiafoe 3-1.

Djokovic is chasing his fourth title in New York, having triumphed in 2011, 2015 and 2018.
