Novak falls to Haas in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon!



World number four Novak Djokovic failed to reach his second career semifinals at The Championships, losing to no.24 seed German Tommy Haas in four sets 5-7 6-7(6) 6-4 3-6 in 2 hours and 44 minutes.

There were no chances for break in the first set until the eleventh game, when Haas earned his first and converted it to go 6-5 up. He served it out to 15 to close the set 7-5.

The second set was very similar. Djokovic was broken again in the eleventh game, but this time it was a very poor 12th game from Haas and Nole broke back for 6-6. No.4 seed was leading 6-3 and had three set points, but the German won five points in a row and won the tiebreaker 8-6.

It was a very good seventh game from Djokovic in the third set. He made a break and then increased his lead to 5-3. Haas held, but the Serb served out the set to 15 for 6-4.

Haas broke Novak’s service in the fourth game and then held to increase his lead to 4-1. The German was confident til the end of the set and won it 6-3 to reach his first Wimbledon semifinal.

Djokovic served 12 aces to Haas’s 18.
No.4 seed hit 47 winners, 2 less than his opponent, and made 24 unforced errors to the German’s 32.
Novak converted both break points he had, while Haas capitalised on 3 of his 5 chances for break.
Total points won: 120/128.

Haas also won their last meeting on grass, in the final of the tournament in Halle just over two weeks ago. Their H2H now is 2-2.

Djokovic will get £106,250 and 360 ATP points for reaching quarterfinals.

Novak will have a break in the singles competition until August 8th, when the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal begins. In the meantime, Nole will play doubles with his brother Marko in Umag, and at an exibition tournament during the first week of August.
