Three of four legs of the International Premier Tennis League are over. Novak’s UAE Royals are second with 27 points, three less than the Micromax Indian Aces.
The two teams met on Monday, with the Royals winning the tie 29-22.
The magic greats of past and present, Sampras, Ivanisevic, Nole and Roger, showed glimpses of their brilliance on the concluding day of IPTL in New Delhi, India.
Novak and Roger delighted ecstatic crowd with spectacular gameplay at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. The highly anticipated clash between the world no.1 and no.2 saw the two champions giving each other tough fight. They played like any other competitive match, not allowing a single point to be won with ease, despite playing in a carnival-like atmosphere.
Federer won the set 6-5 after the shoot-out, but Novak won the game in over time to wrap up the win for the UAE Royals.
Nole also played a part of the doubles match. He entered the court as a substitute for Marin Cilic, which had been a good warm-up for the singles match that followed.
“I really look forward to coming back to India next time…maybe next year for the IPTL,” Novak said. “It was great to be here. The kindness and hospitality of people and their generosity striked me right away. It’s a short stay in India but I’m enjoying and it was a very unique and valuable experience for me.”
The final fourth leg of the IPTL will be played in Dubai (UAE) from December 11-13.
