Nole marches on, wins 450th career match

Second seed Novak Djokovic moved to the third round of the 2012 US Open after dismissing Rogerio Dutra Silva of Brazil 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 on Friday on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The defending champion struck 29 winners and broke 112th-ranked Silva six times from 16 opportunities to clinch the victory in 1 hour and 39 minutes.

“It was different conditions today obviously from the first match I played, the night session,” said Novak. “I didn’t know much about my opponent. Never saw him play. So that could have been a difficulty at the start in order to figure out what his game plan is. But I played well from the start to the end.”

Match statistics: aces (6-3), double faults (1-1), winners (29-17), unforced errors (14-36), total points won (91-56).

Nole will next play against no.31 seed Frenchman Julien Benneteau who beat American Dennis Novikov in four sets.

They have met five times, Novak leads 4-1.

The 25-year-old Belgrade native has dropped just seven games in two matches at Flushing Meadows. He improved to a 56-10 record on the season (31-3 on hard court) and scored his 450th career win.
