The draw has been made for the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Montreal ($ 2,430,000). The sixth Masters tournament of the season begins on Monday, August 8, and will be held till August 14.

After a month off, the Australian Open and Wimbledon 2011 champion Novak Djokovic begins his North American summer hard court season in the second-largest city in Canada. The best Serbian tennis player is top seed and has a first-round BYE.

The world no.1 will open his campaign in the second round against either former world no.3, curently ranked no.30 Russian Nikolay Davydenko or a qualifier. Djokovic and Davydenko have met five times, Nole leads 3-2.

Novak’s potential opponents in the later stages of the tournament are:

3rd round: Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG,16), Marin Cilic (CRO)
Quarter-finals: Gael Monfils (FRA,5), Viktor Troicki SRB,12), Marcos Baghdatis (CYP)
Semi-finals: Roger Federer (SUI,3), Nicolas Almagro (ESP,8), Richard Gasquet (FRA,10), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA,13)

Rafael Nadal (ESP,2), Andy Murray (GBR,4), Mardy Fish (USA,6), Tomas Berdych (CZE,7)… are in the bottom half of the draw.

Last year Novak lost his semifinal match against Swiss Roger Federer 1-6, 6-3, 5-7.

This will be Nole’s fifth appearance at the Rogers Cup. The 24-year-old Belgrade native won the title on his 2007 debut in Montreal (defeated Federer in the final).

Andy Murray is the two-time defending champion. He beat Federer in last year’s final.

Novak will also play doubles at the Rogers Cup. He will team up with his friend and compatriot Janko Tipsarevic against Mark Knowles (BAH) and Philipp Petzschner (GER).

Good luck Nole!
