The draw for US Open is out! Nole in Federer’s half, first round vs Ljubicic!



Three more days are left till the beginning of the last Grand Slam tournament in 2009 – US Open (hard,$21,600,000). The organisers have made the main singles draw on Thursday.

Novak Djokovic is the fourth seed of the tournament. He is in the upper part of the draw, where no1. player, the Swiss Roger Federer is placed traditionally.

In his fifth appearance in Flushing Meadows, the Serbian tennis player and last year’s semifinalist will start the tournament with the match against Ivan Ljubicic, no.50 in the ATP rankings. Novak and the 30-year old Croat have met four times, the 22-year old leads 3-1.

If Nole successfully passes the first step towards the trophy, he will face the winner of the match between qualifiers, world no.155 Australian Carsten Ball and world no.188 Argentine Juan Pablo Brzezicki.

World no.4 might play against no.29 seed Russian Igor Andreev in the third round.

Djokovic’s possible opponents in the later stages of the tournament are:

Quarterfinals: Andy Roddick (USA,5), Fernando Verdasco (ESP, 10)
Semifinals: Roger Federer (SUI,1), Nikolay Davydenko (RUS,8), Robin Soderling (SWE,12), Tommy Robredo (ESP,14), Lleyton Hewitt (AUS,31)

Andy Murray (GBR,2), Rafael Nadal (ESP,3), Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG,6), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA, 7), Fernando Gonzalez (CHI,11)… are in the other half of the draw.
