Top seed Novak Djokovic defeated great rival Rafael Nadal 6-1, 6-4 in their 60th career meeting, on Court Philippe-Chatrier, on Monday.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion emerged victorious against the Spaniard, a 22-time major winner, in one hour and 42 minutes.

Novak made a strong start and raced to a 6-0, 4-0 lead. Rafa fought back in the second set, leveling at 4-all, but the Serbian star took the following two games to seal the triumph and advance into the last 16 at the Paris Olympics.

Match statistics: aces (5-1), double faults (1-2), winners (23-12), unforced errors (17-20), total points won (63-43).

Novak will play against Dominik Koepfer (GER, ATP no.70) in the third round on Wednesday.
