Novak Djokovic produced convincing victory on Monday to reach the last 16 at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The Serbian tennis star dispatched 48th-ranked Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 14 minutes at Ariake Tennis Park.

Leading 5-4 on the German’s serve Novak applied pressure and broke to love to claim the first set 6-4.

Another break came in the second game of the second set. Struff fought back immediately, but Novak converted a break point chance in the fourth game for 3-1 lead, and kept the advantage until the end of the match.

Match statistics: aces (14-3), double faults (1-2), winners (10-11), unforced errors (4-3), total points won (63-45).

Novak will next play against 16th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (H2H 1-0) on Wednesday.

The Spaniard edged John Millman of Australia 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-3.

Djokovic is attempting to become the first man to win all four Grand Slam titles and Olympic gold in the same calendar year.
