Novak falls to Thiem after great fight in Monte Carlo Masters third round

Dominic Thiem captured his second career win over Novak Djokovic on Thursday at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters. The Austrian no.5 seed beat the two-time former champion 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-3 in their third round encounter that lasted 2 hours and 29 minutes.

Novak sets up Thiem last 16 clash

Novak secured his place in the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters third round following a 7-6 (2), 7-5 win over Borna Coric. The 12-time Grand Slam champion converted his 10th match point to set up a last 16 meeting with no.5 seed Dominic Thiem.

Novak against Lajovic in R1 of Monte Carlo Rolex Masters

Novak is no.9 seed and will open campaign against Dusan Lajovic. The Serbian star won Monte-Carlo Masters title twice, in 2013 and 2015. Last year, he suffered a quarter-final upset at the hands of David Goffin (2-6, 6-3, 5-7). This will be his 12th appearance at the Masters 1000 event (30-9 record)
