Novak booked his spot in the third round with a 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 win over 2008 finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He goes on to play 19-year-old NextGen Canadian Denis Shapovalov on Saturday

Novak started his bid for a record seventh Australian Open title with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mitchell Krueger of the USA. He will next play Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA, WC, H2H 16-6)

The 2019 Australian Open draw took place at Margaret Court Arena on Thursday. Novak, a record six–time AO titlist, is no.1 seed and will open campaign against American qualifier Mitchell Krueger (ATP #231)
