13-time titlist Rafael Nadal defeated defending champion Novak Djokovic in an intense four-set French Open quarter-final 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4) in four hours and 12 minutes.

World no.1 Novak Djokovic booked his place in the French Open quarter-finals on Sunday, breezing past Diego Schwartzman in straight sets. The top seed won 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 in two hours and 15 minutes to reach the last eight at Roland Garros for the 16th time.

Novak cruises past Nishioka to reach second round in Paris
Djokovic earned a straight-set first round win in his quest to defend the French Open crown. The top seed beat Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 in one hour and 58 minutes. He next faces Alex Molcan (SVK, ATP #38), who is coached by Marian Vajda.

Singles draw was made for the second Grand Slam event of the season, the Roland Garros, taking place in Paris, from May 22 to June 5. Defending champion and top seed Novak will open his 2022 French Open campaign against Yoshihito Nishioka (JPN, ATP #94, H2H 2-0).
