Rafael Nadal claimed the 2020 French Open to deny Novak his second career Grand Slam. The 13-time titlist defeated the 2016 champion and top seed in straights sets 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 in a superbly played match under a closed roof on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Alexander Zverev earned his biggest career title to date by winning ATP Finals in London 6-4, 6-3 over five-time former champion Novak. The world no.1 earned 1000 ATP points this week and will finish the 2018 season atop of the rankings with 9,045 points, 1,565 more that Nadal
Novak will regain no.1 ranking on Monday. The Serbian star will next travel to London to compete at the season finale, the Nitto ATP Finals, taking place at The O2 Arena (November 11 – 18)
Novak suffered a 7-5, 6-7 (4), 3-6 defeat in the Fever-Tree Championships final, after failing to convert a match point against Marin Cilic. The 12-time Grand Slam champion next heads to Wimbledon, the third Major event of the season (July 2-July 15), where he lifted the trophy three times (2011, 2014, 2015)
