Nole began his Mutua Madrid Open campaign with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Gael Monfils in one hour and 27 minutes. The top seed goes on to face Andy Murray (GBR, WC) on Thursday.

After reaching the final at the 2022 Serbia Open in Belgrade last week, Nole continues his clay court season at the Mutua Madrid Open, an ATP Masters 1000 event, taking place from May 1 to May 8. As a top seed, the three-time former champion will open his campaign at La Caja Mágica in the second round against Gael Monfils (FRA, ATP #21).

Second seed Andrey Rublev won his third title of the season on Sunday, overcoming world no.1 Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-0 in two hours and 29 minutes in the final of the Serbia Open.

The top seed overcame a challenge by Russian Karen Khachanov and progressed into the final of the Serbia Open with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory in one hour and 59 minutes.

For the second straight day at the ATP 250 event, Novak battled back from a set and a break down, this time against seventh seed Miomir Kecmanovic to advance to the semi-finals in his hometown Belgrade, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

World no.1 beat fellow Serb Laslo Djere 2-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) in Belgrade on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals at the Serbia Open. Next up for Novak is seventh seed and another young gun from Serbia, Miomir Kecmanovic.

An ATP 250 clay-court event will be held from April 18 to April 24 at the Novak Tennis Center. Nole is a top seed and has a first round BYE. He will open his bid for 87th tour-level title in R2 against compatriot Laslo Djere (ATP #50).

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina prevailed in a two hour, 55-minute battle on Tuesday, recording a 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1 victory to reach the third round. Novak is heading to Belgrade, where the Serbia Open, an ATP 250 clay-court event, will be held next week.

Novak is a top seed and has a first-round BYE. He will open his 2022 clay-court season campaign against either Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ESP, ATP #45, H2H 2-0) or Marcos Giron (USA, ATP #52).

The top seed at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships failed to reach semi-finals of the ATP 500 event on Thursday. Novak suffered a 4-6, 6-7 (4) loss to world no.123 Jiri Vesely (CZE, Q). As a result, the Serbian star will fall to no.2 in the ATP Rankings on Monday for the first time since February 2020. Djokovic has spent a record 361 weeks at the summit of men's professional tennis.
