Novak earned his 1000th tour-level match win on Saturday, defeating fifth seed Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the Rome Masters final. The Serb is the fifth player to reach the milestone in the Open Era, joining Jimmy Connors, Ivan Lendl, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Nole earned his 998th career win on Thursday at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, moving past Stan Wawrinka 6-2, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals in Rome. He will play against Felix Auger-Aliassime (CAN, 8) on Friday for a spot in the last four.
Novak leads Italian Open field
The ATP Masters 1000 tournament takes place from May 8 to May 15 at Foro Italico in Rome. As a top seed, Novak has a first round BYE. He will open his campaign in R2 against world no.34 Aslan Karatsev (RUS, H2H 1-1).
